RALLYES AND CIRCUITS, THE INTIAL ACTIVITIES
In the early 90s, shortly after creating the company’s structure, Josep Calm focused his attention to the regional field, where he achieved several wins with the pilots he assisted both in rallies and in circuits. Success continued in the following years thanks to the effort and dedication of all the staff that joined the company. After a short while, in the mid 90s, the results arrived at national level, particularly in the gravel rallies.
WORLD CUP PARTNERSHIP YEARS WITH SEAT
The Company took a leap into international level of the specialty with SEAT, achieving surprising results with a win in the World Championship F2- Group N (1996) at the hands of Ferran Font. Also, Calm had a major role in SEAT team training assistance management, working on the secondary vehicles and collaborating with the official assistance team during the races. SEAT official team won World Championships of 2.0 litres in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
DOMINANCE IN THE GRAVEL NATIONAL RALLYES
In 2000, Calm Competició won its first absolute national title, the Spanish Gravel Rally Championship, with Carlos Solé (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI), feat that paved the way for a high specialization on that particular race leading to a constant and regular success including six other national wins with high-caliber pilots such as Dani Solà (2007), Xevi Pons (2008, 2012 and 2013) and Álex Villanueva (2006 and 2016). Calm Competició has also achieved several runner-up finishes as well as wins in different cups and championships while also giving technical assistance to numerous amateur pilots.
STRONG AND CONSISTENT APPEARANCES IN TARMAC RALLYES
At the same time, Calm Competició has been a fixture in Spanish Tarmac Rally Championship in which they have obtained not only final wins and podium final standings, but also several wins in different categories, for example Honda official team and Salvador Cañellas in N1 (2004) or runner-up finish with Xevi Pons in 2009. Several pilots have sparingly hired Calm Competició’s services, but the company has also managed high-profile teams such as Nupel, back in the day, or more recently ACSM Rally Team. Calm has worked with the very best Spanish gravel pilots, Solà and Pons among them, but also Jesús Puras, who leaded the national race on his return to rallies in 2007.
THE INTERNATIONAL PATHWAY IS SET
Worth mentioning is the international experience of Calm Competició. After the collaboration with SEAT, the company got progressively more and more involved in programs worldwide, particularly with French and Portuguese customers, but also with pilots and teams hailing from different countries in South America and Central America. All these collaborations bore fruitful results that rewarded the efforts made.
RACC-REPSOL-MITSUBISHI’S TEAM TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY
Additionally, participation in World Championships races has been constant throughout all these years, initially with pilots like Xevi Pons, Dani Solà and Dani Sordo, mostly with fine-tuned mechanics of Mitsubishi Lancer group N, of which Calm ended up being one of the most prestigious experts in Europe. In 2004, Calm Competició became technical responsible of the RACC-Repsol-Mitsubishi Team of the World Championship of production, with wins in Germany and Corsica (Córcega), first ever for Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII, as well as a sixth-place finish in the Australia Rally with Xavi Pons.
ACTIVITY AND WINS IN THE P-WRC RALLYES WORLD CUP
With Pons himself and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII, Calm obtained other wins in the Production department such as in the New Zealand Rally in 2005 and remarkable performances in said category with pilots such as Juho Hänninen, winner in Production in Corsica 2008. Also, other endeavours have led to important results, namely the runner-up finish in the World Championship of Production with Joan Carchat (Mitsubishi) in 2015 or the first-place finish with Hayden Paddon with Calm’s Ford Fiesta Proto in a national circuit in 2011, as part of a general product test of the Dmack company.
EXPERIENCE IN THE SEAT LEÓN SUPER CUP AND IN RESISTANCE
As far as track races go, 2007 marked the victorious return to track competitions with the Supercopa Seat León, with several wins and podium finishes with French and Swiss pilots and the participation in the 24-hours in Barcelona.
WINS IN ALL-TERRAIN RALLYES AND IN THE GSERIES ON ICE
Calm Competició has also been present in Rallyes TT, winning in the T1 division of the national competition of raids (2001 and 2002), winning also in the GSeries on ice of Andorra, victory achieved in 2012 with Ferran Font and a Ford Proto created and prepared by Calm Competició, which was occasionally driven by Carlos Sainz.
